NAPCO NATIONAL, HEJAZ PLOGGERS AND MAERSK JOIN TOGETHER IN A UNITED EFFORT TO CLEAN JEDDAH CORNICHE

On 21 September 2019, Hejaz Ploggers, a team of environmentally-minded joggers who pick up litter as they exercise, Napco National and logistics company Maersk launched Saudi Arabia’s first litter picking initiative as part of World Cleanup Day. A group of volunteers gathered together to plog, freeing Jeddah’s northern corniche of discarded rubbish as they jogged, while spreading environmental awareness.

Over 180 countries participated in this year’s World Cleanup Day, which was launched internationally in 2011. In fact, the environmental initiative was founded three years earlier in Estonia when 50,000 citizens came together to clean up the entire country in just five hours. News of the successful event soon spread and the cleanup concept caught on worldwide. In 2011, the initiative became an official international movement with its headquarters in New Zealand.
